SONA must include transport safety: Union
Updated | By Zongile Nhlapo
Transport union, SATAWU, wishes to hear President Jacob Zuma speaking on the reliability of public transport during next week's State Of the Nation Address.
The union's KZN representative, Dumisani Nyawo, says public transport has been in the spotlight all over the country.
Nyawo says in KZN persistent problems with municipal bus provider Tansnat has left commuters stranded many times in the past year, but commuters have no viable alternative.
"We would like to see the president talk on the affordability, reliability and safety of every transport merger in this country so that our people can be safe on the roads, in the air and out at sea," he said.
Tansnat experienced numerous diesel shortages last year.
In the past two months its drivers have abandoned buses on the city's major routes over the non-payment of salaries and bonuses in December and last month.
