The veterans held a meeting with the ANC's leadership earlier this week, to address a number of issues facing the ruling party.

They say they will not participate in the campaign - which is expected to be launched by the group, Save South Africa.

ANC veteran, Wally Serote, says they are in talks with the ruling party and will handle party matters in line with the guidelines of the founding fathers.

"We have agreed that we will be guided by the culture, tradition, and values of the ANC. And that is extremely important for us to understand that. We are guided by the president when he said, we should meet, so that by the time December ends we've resolved some of the issues that were outstanding," he said.

Another ANC veteran, Sipho Pityana, is at the forefront of the launch of the People's Motion.

He wants South Africans to sign a document calling for government to respect the rule of law.
