Social Development launches support network in Durban

A support network's being launched in Durban to assist people with specific drug dependencies.

The Department of Social Development says the SA Network of People Who Use Drugs will address issues like discrimination and financial exclusion.
The programme will also offer support and education on the rights of people who use drugs.
The Department's Lumka Oliphant says the network forms part of government's strategy to assist those desperate for a way out:

"Principle five of the National Drug Master Plan (NDMP) states that people who use drugs must be consulted in its implementation and development.
For the first time through a series of consultative workshops, the Central Drug Authority (CDA) met with people who use drugs who have been most affected by the criminal justice response to drugs."
