Members of the South African Police Service have paid tribute to Warrant Officer Ashok Ramsakkan who passed away on Monday.
Ramsakkan, a veteran member of the Flying Squad was shot and wounded by AK47-wielding gunmen in KwaMashu almost two weeks ago.
Paying homage to the Durban Flying Squad member, police officers travelled south along the N2 freeway and through parts of the Durban city centre in a memorial procession.
The veteran Warrant Officer and his partner had been pursuing a suspicious looking bakkie on Malandela Road on the 15th of November when the occupants opened fire on them with rifles hitting Ramsakkan in the neck.
The 53-year-old was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The Hawks have since taken over the investigation.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
