Shark attack suspected as ravaged body washes up
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Investigations are under way into the death of a man whose body washed up on La Lucia beach, north of Duran.
Emergency personnel say it appears he was partially ravaged by a shark. Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst says a man, who was taking a walk in the area on Friday, came across the body.
There’d been a report of a drowning there earlier.
Herbst says a second body was also found in the shore break, but washed back out to sea.
"When medics turned the body over for assessments they found that a portion of the right upper arm and right chest were missing with multiple shark bites clearly visible", he said.
"Officials will determine the exact cause of death with the body handed over to Durban SAPS for further investigation", Herbst said.
