Seven killed in crash involving truck, taxi near Bergville
Seven people have died and 11 others injured in a crash between a car, a truck and a taxi along the R74, just outside Bergville.
The cause of last night's collision is still not clear and police are investigating.
According to ER24, both occupants of the car succumbed to their injuries before paramedics could arrive.
The service's Werner Vermaak says one person died while on route to hospital.
"When medics arrived on scene, they found that several people were ejected from the taxi. Several people from the taxi sustained fatal injuries.
"At least six others sustained critical injuries. They were assessed and treated on scene then rushed to various hospitals. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. Local authorities were on scene and will be conducting an investigation," Vermaak said.
