Security tightened at Maritzburg College

Security has been beefed up at Maritzburg College.
The school governing body says there has been concern following rumours of possible disruptions from outside parties.
The high school grabbed headlines this week after a social media post by some pupils.
In the online photo, two boys are seen holding T-shirts bearing the logo of political party, the EFF.

Disciplinary steps had been taken against the pupils - with the school accusing them of breaching its code of conduct and social media policies.
But these were put on hold though after provincial education officials intervened - saying they'll be conducting their own investigation into the matter as well as claims of racism at the school.

The department's Muzi Mahlambi says the investigation is ongoing.
"When we do our investigation, racism borders on the issue of human rights. We will check if there is any infringements. We will be working with other institutions like the Human Rights Commission so that whatever steps we need to take, there is a specialist's guidance in the matters moving forward," he says.
