Authorities say the 19-year-old had been swimming with friends at Blythedale Beach on Saturday evening when he got into trouble in the water.

IPSS Medical Rescue is helping in the search.

“The search continued from first light and beach patrols north and south of the entry point was conducted, as well as vessels were launched and a drone was used to try and locate the missing 19 year old who experienced difficulties. Unfortunately, we have not succeeded,” says spokesperson, Paul Herbst.

He says the search for the teen will continue.

Further north, an inquest docket has been opened following the recovery of the body of a six-year-old boy from a river near KZN's border with Mozambique.

The child was reported missing in Ndumo on Saturday.

According to the police, he was at the river with friends looking for mangos when he was swept away by a current.

Search and rescue teams recovered the body on Sunday.
