The driver lost control of the car before it struck the teenager who had been walking home from school along Kenyon Howden Road.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says they have managed to help the injured.

"Paramedics found that both the pedestrian as well as the car driver had sustained serious injuries. An advanced life support intervention was needed to assist with their multiple fractures. Once the injured had been stabilised on scene, they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required," he said.

Meanwhile, a man is also fighting for his life in hospital after he was involved in a pedestrian accident along the P200 in Port Shepstone.

Paramedics also found two other people on the scene who had suffered minor injuries.

All the injured are being treated in various hospitals.
