SAPS signs new contract for rape kits

The SAPS says the three-year contract it has signed with a new supplier for rape kits will see 13 types of these forensic exam tools being rolled out to police stations countrywide.

Its previous supplier was dropped over alleged corruption with officers.

And last week, the DA claimed that there were no adult rape kits at 76 percent of police stations. It said child rape kits were not in stock at 69 percent of stations.  

National police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo says a detailed distribution plan has been put in place.
