Santaco warns of possible KZN taxi strike
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
The South Africa National Taxi Council in KZN is warning that it will join the national shutdown on July 12 if its demands are not met.
SANTACO wants government to subsidise the industry, saying it's the largest form of public transport in the country.
Thousands of Gauteng commuters were left stranded and motorists unable to reach their destinations when taxi operators blockaded major routes in and around Johannesburg last week.

KZN spokesperson, Boy Zondi says they're prepared to turn off their vehicles again as was the case earlier this month.
"We are looking into having a total shutdown throughout South Africa. The discussions are carrying on with Santaco. We want all provinces to embark on that," he said.
Taxi operators took to the streets of Durban to protest against high vehicle manufacturing costs - causing major traffic delays and affecting the movement of emergency services.
