Samwu vows to ramp up uThukela strike
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The South African Municipal Workers Union says it's intensifying its strike action at uThukela.
Samwu's KZN spokesperson Xolani Shinga says management at the district municipality and the Department of Cooperative Governance haven't set up a meeting yet to discuss their concerns.
He says the issues stem from an agreement signed with the municipality last year.
Shinga says the employer hasn't made good on its promise to ensure a healthy and safe work environment for staff, among other things.

He says uThukela failed to secure a court interdict on Tuesday against the union and its workers.
"There is a violation of policies at the municipality and the recruitment policies, we just see new faces and the municipality doesn't follow the furnishing and recruitment as well as the acting policy.
"We have workers who have been acting in post for more than 10 years now and management are selective, the are absorbing some of the workers and some of them are not being absorbed."
