Sama chairperson steps down following race comment
The South African Medical Association (Sama) says Dr Angelique Coetzee has stepped down as its board chairperson.
It says Coetzee made the announcement at a meeting on Thursday night, adding that she will stay on as an ordinary member.
While Sama hasn't explained the reasons for her decision - it comes days after the association issued a statement in response to comments Coetzee made about medical school admission requirements.

The board said it had accepted her apology for saying that race played a significant role in determining acceptance to faculties - in many instances more than an applicant's matric performance.
Sama says vice-chairperson and KZN-based GP, Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa, will act as interim chairperson.
