SAHRC report on farm murders welcomed
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
Yesterday's report says the National Prosecuting Authority and police need to do more to combat farm murders.
The report also wants social cohesion to be worked on.
KwaNalu's Koos Marais says they agree with the findings of the commission's report.
''Farmers are perceived to be easy targets because they are far from assistance, there is no policing within kilometres normally or security companies.
''Also as farmers it's not easy to fortify, you cannot put a high fence around the farm and expect people to stay out of it. Farmers are rather trusting people. The element of surprise is in the hands of the perpetrator,'' he said.
Civil rights group AfriForum says there've been 27 farm murders since the beginning of the year.
