“Every night, we used to stand at the entrance which is coming from Cornubia,” said Kwanele Msizazwe, who is a community leader at Blackburn Village, north of Durban.

“The other people, they were standing on the other side from Msinga with the residents from Umhlanga trying the protect the place that feeds us, trying to protect the place we use to shop at. Trying to protect even the people from Blackburn Village not to get hurt.”

He testified that their settlement was used as storage for looters.

”After two days, we had a meeting here at Umhlanga and we reported that there is a lot of equipment we believe is from one of these warehouses all over Blackburn village.

“So we told them. We were happy we saw the police, they came to the village and they took all of the stuff.”
