Safety of pedestrians a major concern: transport officials
Updated | By Zongile Nhlapo
The KZN Department of Transport says this morning's accident which resulted in the deaths of four pedestrians is yet another that shows road safety should be a collective responsibility.
Three school children and a female vendor lost their lives when two taxis collided at the Reunion Railway Station near Umlazi, south of Durban.
It's understood one of the taxis veered off the road crashing into the pedestrians.

Department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane who's sent his condolences to the families has pleaded with road users to be vigilant on the roads.
"We urge everybody including pedestrian taxi operators as well to make sure we all adhere to all safety laws and regulations. We appeal that the safety of pedestrians is prioritised on the road especially during the early hours of the morning," he said.
Investigations into the accident are underway.
