The airline, which is currently undergoing a business rescue process, says 124 regional flights and 38 international routes are affected by the cancellations.

The cancellations were effective from yesterday until the end of this month.

SAA says it will continue to provide a service on the domestic, regional and international networks for those passengers whose travel is essential and can't be avoided.

It says for the time being, the airline will continue to operate to and from destinations unaffected by travel restrictions aimed at combatting the spread of the coronavirus.

SAA has already scrapped all of its domestic flights except for the Johannesburg to Cape Town route - as part of efforts to conserve cash and return the state owned airline to profitability.
