Chinese President Xi Jinping is on a state visit to the country.

President Jacob Zuma briefed the media in Johannesburg yesterday, saying the volume of agreements indicates the amount of work that had been done in the past few months to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.

Zuma says more could and should be done to increase the country's investment and trade figures.

"South Africa has just hosted an inward buying mission from China which comprise large Chinese state-owned enterprises.

"I believe that this will contribute to addressing the structure of our bilateral trade as well as the industrialisation of our economy," hew said.

Xi will also co-chair a two-day forum on China-Africa Cooperation which begins in Johannesburg tomorrow, with several African heads of state expected to attend.
