SA records over 11 000 new Covid-19 cases

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 11 125 new Covid-19 cases in the latest 24 hours reporting cycle.
This brings the country’s total laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 031 694 since the start of the pandemic.
The latest increase represents a 23.8% positivity rate.
Gauteng remains the leading province with the majority of cases – 7 929 new infections have been reported in the last 24 hours.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (71%), followed by Western Cape (7%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 6% and North West accounted for 4%. Mpumalanga and Limpopo accounted for 3% and Free State and Eastern Cape each accounted for 2%. Northern Cape accounted for less than 1% of today’s new cases,” said the NICD in a statement.
An additional 1 Covid-19 related death has been reported, bringing total fatalities to 89,966.
There has been an increase of 28 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 3 268 people currently receiving treatment in both private and public health facilities.
