SA records more than 5 000 new Covid-19 cases for fourth straight day

South Africa has recorded 5 074 new Covid-19 cases in the latest 24 hour period, the fourth consecutive that the country breached the 5 000 mark.
South Africa’s total identified cases stands at 1 696 564.
Gauteng is still leading with 22 065 active cases, accounting for 28% of the country’s total active cases.
In the latest statistics released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, there has been 45 new Covid-19 related deaths.
Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West recorded zero new fatalities.
KwaZulu-Natal recorded only 1 case.

Western Cape had six new related fatalities, Gauteng 7, the Northern Cape 15 and the Free State 16.
This brings the country’s death toll to 56 974.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Mkhize.
The country’s recovery has decreased to 93,0%.
On the vaccine front, 1,343,433 people have been vaccinated.
