SA records an increase in new Covid-19 cases over the past week

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has confirmed an increase in the rolling average of new Covid-19 cases reported over the past seven days.
Thursday saw a second consecutive day of more than 500 new infections – after 585 new Covid-19 cases were reported.
This brings the country’s total laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 927 499.
A total of 34 529 tests were conducted.
The latest increase represents a 1.7% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases comes from Gauteng 33%, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 18% and Western Cape accounted for 16%.
An additional 40 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 89, 555.
There has been an increase of 33 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours with 3504 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 125 868 vaccines were administered on Thursday.
