SA records another 11 000 new Covid-19 cases

South Africa recorded 11,767 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the latest cases represents a 22.6% positivity rate.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (64%), followed by Western Cape (11%). North West accounted for 6%; Free State, KwaZulu-Natal & Mpumalanga each accounted for 4% respectively; Eastern Cape & Northern Cape each accounted for 3% respectively; and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s cases,” the institute said in a statement.
Gauteng recorded 7,502 new cases, bringing the provincial cases to 529,873.
The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases in South Africa now stands at 1,786,079.

“The total number of cases today is lower than yesterday but higher than the average number of new cases per day over the seven preceding days. The positivity has increased from yesterday,” the NICD added.
A further 100 Covid-19 related deaths have also been reported, bringing the country’s total fatalities to 58,323.
The institute says an increase of 1,974 hospital admissions has been reported in the past 24 hours.
Nearly 9,000 people are receiving treatment in the country’s public and private facilities.
