SA records a spike in Covid-19 deaths

South Africa has recorded 553 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24-hour period, bringing the total fatalities to 77 993.
The latest report by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) also shows there were 10685 new Covid-19 cases up until Tuesday evening.
The increase represents a 20.4% positivity rate.
A total of 52 267 tests were conducted on Tuesday.
Western Cape is the leading province with the highest number of cases and recorded 2 745 cases on Tuesday.

It’s followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 2 288 new cases.
Eastern Cape has seen an increase in cases - with 1 831 new infections in the last 24 hours.
There has been an increase of 526 hospital admissions, bringing the total to 13 880 people currently admitted in both public and private facilities.
On the vaccine front, 181 862 were administered on Tuesday.
