SA produces at least 14m face masks weekly
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
At least 14 million face masks are being produced, in the country, each week.
The Clothing Industry Bargaining Council says manufacturers have been hard at work - since a production ramp-up call by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
To stem the spread of COVID-19 - we're now required to wear a mask when we leave our homes.
The council's Rajen Naicker says they've started an accreditation campaign to identify producers. This will keep track of production and ensure that lockdown regulations are adhered to.

Naicker says most of the 388 manufacturers they've identified so far are located in townships.
"We will encourage people to be safe in the manufacturing process because it can mitigate against the intended use of the fabric mask. For example, if you are using a machine and a piece of needle breaks and it's embedded in the cloth, and if you put that mask on the face of a minor, it has unintended consequences."
