She was talking with stakeholders in the sector on Thursday.

Sisulu said the UK and Germany are the two countries bringing in the highest number of international tourists to South Africa.

Germany removed South Africa its list of high-risk Covid-19 countries last week.

Sisulu said some concerns were raised during recent discussions with British officials.

"I did get in touch with the British deputy high commissioner and he explained to me that for as long as we have the Beta variant, the British scientists remain very sceptical because they believe that this is resistant to vaccines.

"They are also very concerned about our porous borders, so it doesn't matter whether we all of us in South Africa vaccinate. We still have people coming in that we can not vouch for. So they are taking their time."
