Rodgers welcomes KZN budget approval, pledges improved service delivery

Most of the funding has been allocated to frontline departments, while additional investment will support infrastructure, road maintenance, job creation, agriculture and tourism.
KZN's Finance MEC says provincial government departments can finally get to work delivering services after the budget is approved.
Frontline departments prioritised
Up to 80% of the R168 billion has been allocated to frontline departments such as Education, Health and Social Development.
MEC Francois Rodgers tells Newswatch that Tuesday's adoption of the budget is a strong vote of confidence.
Rodgers says an overwhelming majority supported it.
KZN Treasury says the budget also prioritises infrastructure development, job creation, and economic growth.
Road maintenance funding
A sizable portion has been set aside for road maintenance and the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by natural disasters.
Rodgers says there are also additional allocations for early childhood development, agriculture, and tourism.
“What's interesting is political dynamics, and one can sit and analyse it, but it wasn't a one-vote majority yesterday. It was, if my memory serves me right, four votes. So, I think there are some parties that have seen the importance of the budget, and we welcome that approach,” says Rodgers.
The MEC says government will now focus on ensuring that every rand is spent for what it's meant for.
