Asif Ismail says the employee had gone to the bank on Monday to deposit the money but never returned.

Police have confirmed that a case of theft is being investigated but no arrests have been made at this stage.

Ismail says the suspect had worked at his business for two years.

''We went to his residence and we did not find anyone there.

''When we enquired from the land lady as to whether she had seen anyone and she said that his wife left - they both had basically absconded,'' he said.
