They say it's been a week since water came out of their taps.

One resident says they feel the municipality is violating their rights.

"We got the mandate today in which we want our water restored by this evening and we are giving five working days to come and meet us face-to-face."

"We want the city manager, the mayor, the head of water, the engineers - they need to tell us up front what is happening here, where is our money and or we are going to call for a forensic warrant for what is happening because we are paying exorbitant rates are we are not getting the services."

eThekwini Municipality says it's working around the clock to fix a burst pipe that's causing the problem.

But the resident says frustrations are starting to boil over.

"It is so humiliating. We can't flush toilets. You can't have a proper shower, you have to use a bucket. Do I need to be carrying a bucket into my bathroom to have a bath?"
