Renewed calls for tighter school security after Durban shooting
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
There are calls again for security at schools in KwaZulu-Natal to be beefed up.
This is after a student teacher was shot in the head outside a school in Durban's Newlands West on Tuesday morning.
Police say he was attacked by three men who fled in a black car.
The man was taken to hospital.
"We have called for this time and time again, something has to be done," says Thirona Moodley, who is with the National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa.

"We have got teachers who lost their lives, learners who were attacked, we have teachers who were robbed and there seems to be no intention on the part of the Department of Education to look at some ways in which security has to be improved in schools.
“We are not going to continue to be sitting back and waiting for funds to be secured by the department. We have to look at alternative ways to fund security."
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
The KZN Education Department has yet to comment.
