Regulator issues recall for 'unsafe' cement

The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications has issued a product
recall for Econo cement 32.5N.
It says the product's failed to meet the minimum requirements for the prescribed strength and has ordered hardware stores to halt sales.
The entity's Principal Inspector Phathiswa Ngotya says they were inundated with complaints about the cement.
Checks revealed that it isn't safe for use.

She says they're concerned about problems with the structural integrity of buildings and roads.
"The investigations that we have conducted from June until today needed to satisfy our processes regarding where the shortfall is. We went to the source where the manufacturing happens and sampled at their premises, which failed."
She called on the manufacturers to also give them feedback.
