President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged, on the eve of this special meeting, that eThekwini's former mayor and her move to the KZN Legislature have become a hot issue for the ruling party.

The DA pushed the President for a response during a Q & A session in Parliament yesterday.

"Admittedly that has caused alot of disquiet and the matter is being discussed within the structures of the African National Congress in a very democratic manner. And leave it to those structures to deal with the matter," he said.

Earlier this month, Gumede was sworn in as an MPL to replace former KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu who died of COVID-19.

This, despite her being recalled as eThekwini's mayor last year by the ANC in KZN  because of the fraud and corruption charges she's currently facing.

Allegations of corruption and other crimes against party members are set to come under the microscope this weekend.
