Ramaphosa announcement ‘imminent’ as consultations continue

The president has been burning the midnight oil as he
considers the gravity of the recommendations outlined in the Phala Phala
report.

President Cyril Ramaphosa's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya addressed the media on Thursday evening.
He said the president is engaging a number of roleplayers and stakeholders across the government and ANC.
“Different levels of the party, and alliance and this is in appreciation of the enormity of the matter."
Reports had been swirling that the president was due to make a statement on Thursday following the release of the damning report.
A parliamentary panel found there was preliminary evidence that Ramaphosa may have violated the constitution over how he handled a robbery on his private farm in Limpopo.
Former National Commissioner of Correctional Services Arthur Fraser opened a criminal case - accusing Ramaphosa of covering up the burglary.
The Presidency confirmed the theft of foreign currency but denies any criminal wrongdoing.

Magwenya said the release of the report has ushered in an unprecedented and extraordinary moment for the country.
"Whatever decision the president makes, that decision has to be formed in the best interest of the country and that decision cannot be rushed so we apologise for the impression he was going to address the nation last night.
“As I said, I have not provided a timeline, I only indicated that the announcement is imminent and that's still the position.”
