Western Cape police say two men have been arrested near George after they were found in possession of at least 48 000 Mandrax tablets worth an estimated R2.4-million.
Captain Malcolm Pojie says police received a tip-off on Saturday morning and stopped a Nissan Qashqai near Kraaibosch Estate.
They found 48 bags containing 1 000 each in different panels of the vehicle.
A 32-year-old man from Sandton, Johannesburg, and a 35-year-old from Gugulethu, Cape Town, were arrested.
"It is believed that the illegal drugs were meant for distribution in the Western Cape," he said.
The two are expected to appear in the George Magistrate's Court today.
