Questions raised concerning eThekwini's Brazil trip
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
eThekwini has explained that the purpose of their planned trip to Colombia - was to assess public transport systems, although the delegation failed to get further than Brazil.
Head of eThekwini Transport Authority, Thami Manyathi says while not able to complete their planned trip - they were able to make arrangements to assess Brazil's transport systems.
"We had identified around six or so possible candidate cities to visit but in the interest of time and containing the cost, we settled on Sao Paolo and had discussions around how they will participate in the Go!Durban programme. There was a whole series of discussions, studies and surveys that were part of that programme of action," Manyathi said.
Meanwhile, the DA in the City is calling on municipal manager, Sipho Nzuza to investigate the trip. The opposition party claims R2-million was spent to send the 59 delegates to Colombia. Councillor, Chris Pappas says the group was refused entry for not having the correct visas.

"We have written to the city manager - asking for a full investigation into what actually happened, who was responsible as well as who authorised additional payments. Those payments have to be approved at a councillor level," Pappas said.
