The clip of the incident believed to have taken place in November last year at Siyathuthuka Secondary School, in Inanda township, north of Durban, surfaced a few days ago and has caused an outrage.

The police's Thembeka Mbhele confirms the arrest which she says took place after the male pupil was handed over to police by a relative.

Mbhele also says they are aware of reports that when the girl's father had gone to police shortly after the incident they were initially turned away.

"A statement from the girl's father was obtained with regards to those allegations, however, that is subject to investigation because according to the station commander it is not yet known which officers had attended to them," she said.

"This will be investigated internally," Mbhele said.

Meanwhile KZN Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says the girl has been moved to another school. He says the other schoolboy seen in the video is still at the school.

"When police conduct their investigations he will also have to answer any questions they may have with regards to the incident," he said.
