Provincial task team investigating Newcastle shooting
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Police say the case of two men who were shot and killed in Newcastle has been handed over to the provincial task team probing political killings.
Gunmen opened fire on businessman Buthanani Shange and Martin Sithole outside Shange's shop yesterday afternoon.
The two are understood to have been ANC members. Three bystanders were wounded in the attack.
Police say while the motive hasn't yet been established, they haven't ruled out a political motive.
"Given the seriousness of the incident where two people were killed, and three people wounded - we felt a task team would have the capacity to be able to deal with this case and hopefully - make arrests as soon as possible," national police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo said.
