Political interference will drown Eskom, warns expert

Energy expert Ted Blom has
warned alleged continuous political interference will cripple
operations at the already struggling Eskom.
The power utility announced on Thursday that stage two of load shedding will run until 11 pm on Sunday, citing power generation unit failures at Kusile.
Energy expert, Ted Blom, says government has appointed officials – some of whom have no generation experience.
“The government is running a political agenda syndrome and every senior at Eskom must be ANC approved. They don’t worry about competence and the current management team don’t have the competence to fix up the generation side of the business,” says Blom.

“There is a whole trust deficit within Eskom and corruption will continue as far as I am concerned, and it is clear that the top management of Eskom and the board are not competent to do the job properly.”
Blom has projected load shedding will be implemented on-and-off until April this year.
“There has been total breakdown of capacity and it shows that with the repairs done last year that were done inadequately and as you know Eskom, when they try to rush things and put pressure of contractors, they don’t get the job properly.
“The bad news is that this load shedding risk will be with us at least until mid-April but they are not admitting it, but in fact, their own doctor showed that there will be load shedding up to 6 and 8 between now and April.”
