Police test firearms for possible links to Empangeni home invasion

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the links between two suspects caught on illegal firearm charges and a home invasion in Empangeni on the north coast.

The 22 and 30-year-old men will line up in court today.

It is not yet clear if they robbed a family at gunpoint on Saturday, making off with cash and cell phones.

The police's Jay Naicker says they are still trying to establish whether the suspects can be linked to the incident.

Their guns will also be sent for ballistic testing to check whether were they used in other crimes.

"The suspects were nabbed a few hours afterwards in possession of the firearms in the Empangeni area," said Niacker.

Naicker confirmed that the suspects have been detained at Empangeni SAPS for being in the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

"Detectives are currently working to link them to the robbery case."
