Police are searching for three people in connection with the murders of an ANC official and two community members in Imfume - near Umgababa on the upper south coast.
The ANC in KZN says Nqobizwe Mkhize was gunned down in his home in front of his pregnant wife, early on Saturday morning.
He was involved in party mobilisation activities ahead of the elections.
"They kicked the door in and fired shots at Mkhize. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and died at the scene. The motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage," the police's Nqobile Gwala said.

Gwala says the gunmen then fired shots at two community members while trying to escape.
"Two victims - aged 27 and 29 - were walking home when they were attacked by three unknown suspects travelling in an unknown vehicle. We are also appealing to everyone who might have any information about the suspects to contact local police," Gwala said.
