Police probing Durban Harbour assault
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating charges of assault following violent unrest at the container docks at the Durban Harbour, over the weekend.
Video footage, which looks to show a group of people armed with sticks assaulting a man, was shared on social media.
But police spokesperson, Katlego Mogale says that more people were hurt.
She says a group of about 30 workers embarked on protest action at around mid-day, on Saturday.
"They allegedly stormed the gate and proceeded to threaten the casual workers. They assaulted them. Six employees are confirmed to have been assaulted. Cases of assault and illegal gathering have been opened and public order policing as well as border police are keeping an eye on the situation," Mogale said.
