The City of Cape Town says police are dealing with the ‘Zuma Must Fall’ banner campaign that ignited social media last week.
The banner that was erected on a block of flats in the CBD last week was torn down by people thought to be ANC members and supporters at the weekend.
The municipality says the banner contravened its outdoor advertising bylaws as well as national building regulations.
Nobody has taken responsibility for the stunt.
City of Cape Town spokesperson, Priya Reddy says no arrests have been made.
"We are not going to pre-empt what the prosecutor will decide but it can be anything from jail time or a fine and the removal of the banner.
"But subsequent to us handing it to the prosecutor, the activists took the poster down. This too was an illegal act, the matter is bring handled by the South African Police Services," she said.
