Police open case after lion cubs found on Westville property
A case has been opened against the people who allegedly kept two lion cubs illegally in their private property in Westville.
Neighbours alerted authorities on Tuesday after the animals were spotted in a yard in Dawncliffe.
"Police in Westville have opened a criminal case under the National Environmental Management Act undertaking a restricted activity involving a threatened or protected species without a permit," says police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda.
"SPCA had received a call that there were cubs kept on the premises. On arrival they were met with resistance and police were called up and assisted with the search.

"During searching the property, the cubs were found. The information was positive, and all the role players were summoned to the scene."
Netshiunda says no arrests have been made at this stage.
The cubs were taken in by the Kloof SPCA.
