Police monitor UKZN Westville after protests
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Police are closely monitoring the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Westville campus after violent protests erupted on the campus last night.
The Police's Thulani Zwane says students allegedly set three cars and a building alight. He says a case of public violence will soon be opened.
"For now, it is a bit quiet - there have been no incidents reported. The police are still on scene monitoring the situation," he said.
Meanwhile, two people have been arrested for public violence near the M19 in Durban.
It's understood a group of over 200 people have gathered in the vicinity of Quarry Road and Mountbatten Drive.
Zwane says it's unclear if the two incidents are related.
"It is not easy to renew those roads and we are warning the motorists to please avoid using those roads. We do not know whether these are related or not for now," he said.
