Police cite fake news about official arrested in Andile Mbuthu case
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN police have dismissed what they describe as a fake news report that a senior police official has been arrested in connection with the murder of Tongaat teen, Andile 'Bobo' Mbuthu.
A report has been doing the rounds on social media, claiming that the officer helped suspects hide and get rid of the 16-year-old's body.
What's believed to be Mbuthu's remains were found in a river in Tongaat last week Friday, two weeks after he went missing.
He was last seen alive at a local tavern where he was allegedly beatenfor trying to steal alcohol.
Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says they have been contacted by several news agencies about the report.
"We have indicated that all seven suspects were arrested and appeared in court. None of those suspects that appeared is police officers.
'So it is obvious that this is a fake media post and we have asked media houses to reframe from publishing this fake news story."
