Plans to recoup salaries of irregularly-appointed senior Nquthu officials
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance Department says it will be recovering the salaries of top Nquthu municipal officials, whose appointments have been declared invalid.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court handed down the judgment last month.
Some councillors had approached the court on the grounds the appointments of the acting municipal manager, acting chief financial officer and acting director of planning, housing and land administration were in contravention of the standing rules and orders.

MEC Sipho Hlomuka says they're obligated to recover the money paid to them during that period.
He visited the Nquthu council chamber on Wednesday.
But the MEC was locked out and ended up convening the meeting with opposition councillors in a parking lot.

"We are going to take the matter to court; hence we are going to advise them formally.
"For sure, they have received the court's judgement and then we are going to give them a timeframe to respond to the court's judgment.
"If they don't adhere to the court judgment, we are taking the matter back to court and the court will pronounce itself.”
