NPA gives Abathembu King ultimatum
Updated | By Shadley Nash
Abathembu King Buyelekhaya Dalinyebo has until the 23rd of this month to report to the Department of Correctional Services to begin serving a 12-year jail sentence.
The King lost his appeal in the Constitutional Court earlier this month.
He was convicted on charges of kidnapping, arson and assault.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Appeal set aside his conviction of culpable homicide and reduced his sentence from 15 to 12 years.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Luxolo Tyali says they will intervene if the king fails to meet these requirements.
"The previous order that was given was that once a decision was made by the Constitutional Court, the king must hand himself over to the head of the Correctional Services within 14 days.
"If he fails, the NPA will apply for a committal warrant which will be [carried out] by the police," he said.
