No racial undertone in DA billboards: analyst

A political analyst says he sees no racial undertone on billboards put up by the DA this week that state that jobs have been and continue being lost under President Jacob Zuma's leadership.

The two massive billboards have been erected in the Joburg CBD and were unveiled on Thursday. One of them has the words "More people jobless under Zuma's ANC and counting..." on a yellow background, with a picture of a smiling Zuma beneath that.

The second billboard, next to it, reads "Vote DA for change that creates jobs".

Analyst Ibrahim Fakir says the ANC's claim that the billboards are racist deviates from the real issue.

"I am not saying the DA should have a free pass in making statements of this nature. It should be contested. But to simply label it racist, has nothing to do with the issue.

"Of course you could have a discussion about the ANC or the perception that black people should manage the economy or the way in which growth should be happening and of course that would touch on sensitive issues.

"However, that is necessary if we want our society to evolve," he said.
