New taxi rank for Ballito
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
A new taxi rank has been opened in Ballito. KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu unveiled the new R4.2-million public transport facility this morning.
Mthembu says they hope the new rank will bring stability to the area, which has been plagued by taxi-related violence.
He says the north coast town is a growing business hub and an efficient public transport system is crucial.
But Mthembu says finding a suitable location was not a walk in the park.
"We're having some problems as the municipality trying to get land for the construction of the taxi rank. In Ballito, there was no taxi rank or any structure indicating there would be a taxi rank. We felt that it is important to ensure that we formalise the rank avoiding the informal taxi rank. We also seek to ensure that everybody is transporting people via the formal taxi rank," he said.
