The power utility has been mired in controversy amid allegations of state capture and the high-profile departures of  board chairperson Ben Ngubane and former CEO Brian Molefe.

The new board members are Dr Pulane Molokwane, Simphiwe Dingaan, Dr Banothile Makhubela and Sathiaseelan Gouden. This brings the total number of board members to nine.

Brown says she believes the appointments represent a new dawn at Eskom.

“I have asked Eskom’s new leadership to roll up its collective sleeves and immediately address three areas of primary importance: The management of contracts, conflicts of interest, and the quality of coal supplied to Eskom," says Brown.

On Thursday Eskom announced appointment of new interim CEO, Johnny Dladla, as replacement for Molefe.

Brown says she has full confidence in Dladla's abilities.

“I wanted to give South Africa someone who wasn’t conflicted by applying for job and was not named in the media. I think I made a good choice."
