Yesterday morning, hundreds of thousands of Harry Potter fans around the world were given an extra-special present to commemorate author JK Rowling and her titular character’s dual birthdays: a new book from the most famous wizarding series of all time.

And just like magic, it sold out in minutes!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child isn’t an official adaptation of the international bestselling book series, but instead, a published version of the script of the new stage production which debuted on London’s West End on Saturday, to much acclaim.

The book is a sequel to the original stories, and picks up where Deathly Hallows ended, some 19 years ago.

The story will be released in two parts. The first edition, entitled “Special Rehearsal Edition”, is the most pre-ordered book of 2016.

It was written by Rowling, together with authors written by Rowling in collaboration with John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, for special stage adaptation.

In Cursed Child, Harry and his generation have all grown up.

The Boy Who Lived has now become an overworked father and Ministry of Magic employee, but is still holding on to his boyhood dreams.

Fans of the original books have lauded the latest offering and the journey back to Hogwarts.

The second edition of the book – which will be an update of the current play – is due for release in 2017.
